Why is Harry Potter called Harry Potter and the Sorcerers stone in the US?

Harry Potter was published first in the UK in 1997, it was called Harry Potter and the Philosophers stone. So why, in 1998 did they rename it and call it Harry Potter and the Sorcerers stone in the US?

And why for some of the books do they have different front covers? They should stick to the original ones!

The publishers thought that Americans wouldn't understand the concept or definition of a philosopher so they changed it sorcerer. They believed it would look more interesting to the American audience.

I think it's not only the target audience the different versions are targeting but the publishers probably wanted something new and fresh too.

I think the original ones are good but I don't mind the more grown up ones. Either way it's the content of the book that matters not the cover. I don't care what's on the cover as long as the proper contents of the book is inside.

I am an avid fan of harry potter.I admit I liked harry potter and the deathly hallows movies. Again, I loved it. This is not an action movie — most of the action in the story comes later. This first part is really all about setup, as I think most people expected.The kids have really matured as actors and it seems like they put their hearts into giving the final film a flourishing touch. I'm planning to see the movie again.

By the way, I do not want to watch this movie in 3-D and I am very glad they did not delay its release so they could knock out a 3-D version. The technology is just not there yet. As long as we have to wear those goofy glasses to watch 3-D films, I think I'll pass on any more 3-D experiences. "Avatar" was cool but not cool enough to entice me into becoming a 3-D film geek.

Without the guidance and protection of their professors, Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson) begin a mission to destroy the Horcruxes, the sources of Voldemort's immortality. Though they must rely on one another more than ever, dark forces threaten to tear them apart. Voldemort's Death Eaters have seized control of the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts, and they are searching for Harry -- even as he and his friends prepare for the ultimate showdown.

For Harry Potter, it's the beginning of the end in the part one of the seventh movie called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. While fans are excited about the release of this new Harry Potter movie, they are sad at the same time since this is going to be the first of the two parts of the Harry Potter series and then there will be no more Harry Potter movies to wait for!

At last, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released, and so far the reviews which it has been receiving are quite positive. This movie is going to be by far, the darkest of all the Harry Potter movies, so you better be prepared for the tragedy!

I think that the only way to critique a book based on the movie is to have read the book.  You can also judge the movie as a stand alone, but issues you have with where the author of the book chose to take the story are not fair criticisms of a movie based on said book.

The movie was an excellent adaptation of the book.  There were many scenes that played out exactly as written, right down to word-for-word dialogue.  There is nothing more thrilling than seeing a beloved book come to life precisely as you saw it in your head.
