I just joined the school swim team and have a few questions.
1) Does the type of swimsuit (ie. brief, square-cut, jammer) help you in any way in different strokes (breaststroke, back stroke, butterfly etc.)?
2) What are the differences between lycra and polyester swim briefs in terms of durability, comfort, and time to dry?
3a) How tight are swim briefs and jammers supposed to be (I have heard of being able to put only an index finger into the waistband)?
b) What size should I get for TYR briefs considering that I am a 31 inch and the sizes range from XS to XL. Should I get S or M?
4) Which direction (up or down) should I point my penis when I swim (comfort, hydrodynamic)?

2) lycra stretches in all directions and polyester stretches in one direction.
durability, Lycra with it's stretch should last longer
